Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition - to stop men dying from prostate cancer. Through shifting the science over the next 10 years to focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support, we will stop prostate cancer being a killer.

Story

After my best ever marathon time in 2014 I entered the Brighton Marathon again for April 2015 only to find out in October that at the relatively young age of 49 I have incurable advanced prostate cancer. My prognosis is not ideal so anything I can do to help others affected by this terrible disease in the future will be a comfort and it may even be in time to help me!

Prostate Cancer UK have already been of huge support to me and I know that will continue but they also undertake valuable research and believe me this not only affects the person who has it (1 in 7 men will get prostate cancer!) but also wives, brothers, sisters, parents, children, friends and its not just an old mans disease as I always thought.

My only caveat is that I have no idea if will actually make the start line, I promise I will do my best but I will be on week 14 of chemotherapy by then and have no idea how I will have reacted to it or if I can walk 100 yards let alone run 26.2 miles so ultimately you may be "Just giving", that said, if I have to come back and do it in stages or on my own then I wil do it just for the glory of saying I can stil do it. .

Life is a funny thing, I don't really have regrets but I am sure as hell not going to waste what I have now, if nothing else I hope that by reading this you will waste less time too and not skimp on the important things in life.
