On the 2nd October 2022 we will be taking part in the London marathon to raise awareness and funds on behalf of JDRF, a charity our family have been supporting ever since Mason (now aged 6) was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) in May 2021. 

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that affects the pancreas. Mason’s pancreas does not produce any insulin, and as a result we need to inject or continually infuse insulin through a pump into his body. We need to carefully balance insulin doses with eating and daily activities. Too high / too low can both be very dangerous. We constantly monitor his blood-sugar levels and can never leave the house without his medical equipment. Keeping his blood sugar stable requires constant attention and the most simple things of the life of a 6 year old become very challenging : sport activities, birthday parties, school trips etc. Type 1 is a non-stop and 24/7 balancing act from which there’s no break. 

Mason has inspired us all in the way he has approached and handled his diagnosis and we aim to raise funds for treatments for children living with Type 1 and ongoing research into this non curable disease.
