We support individuals to live, learn and work as independently as they choose, whatever their ability. Led by people with experience of disability, we are at the heart of local life - opening doors to opportunity, choice and support in communities.

Story

I'm running five half marathons a week in the month of July. Here's why...

The risk of social isolation has become prevalent in these trying times. Through the use of ground-breaking assistive technology, disabled people need support to combat isolation and loneliness so they remain connected to friends, loved ones and the wider community.

As the Communications and Research Officer at Leonard Cheshire in Scotland, I collate all the stories for the world to hear about how technology is transforming the lives of disabled people.

I am running 23 half marathons in July to fundraise for #ChallengeScotland so we can help tackle social isolation. To put this into perspective: yes, I am a runner, but this is a serious feat for me. I've only ever ran two half marathons in a month before and the most I've ran in one month has accumulated 215 kilometres. This challenge equates to almost 500km – and I might even make it 24 half marathons just to surpass that landmark. This is basically like me running from Edinburgh to Cardiff.

The running will typically commence Monday to Friday, running full-time like the full-time working week. At least I will - mostly - have the weekends off...

But this will be a gruelling endeavour for me and your support will get me through this. I will update this page daily in July, but also before then with my training developments!
