Story
I’m running the London Marathon in October 2022 as part of #TeamCardio for Cardiomyopathy UK.
Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle. It's a group of conditions that affect the structure of the heart and reduce its ability to pump blood around the body.
It affects around 1 in 250 people in the UK. Some of you may have heard about the condition in the news as it is one of the commonest causes of sudden cardiac arrest in the young. Perhaps the most high profile case being the footballer Fabrice Muamba who collapsed on the pitch in 2012.
Cardiomyopathy UK provide support and information to anyone affected by cardiomyopathy. They rely entirely on donations, and are working for prompt diagnosis, information and treatment to save lives and improve quality of life.
Many of you will know I had the privilege of working in the Heart Failure Unit at St George's Hospital so have seen first hand how important charities like these are.
As such any donations however small or large will be greatly appreciated!
For those interested you should be able to follow my training through the Strava link attached as I try to go for the probably slightly too ambitious target time of 2 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds!
