We provide care in Coventry & Warwickshire to people with a terminal illness aged 18+

Story

My Beautiful Nan was diagnosed with COPD in 2010. For those who don’t know COPD is a medical condition which involves obstruction of the airways and difficulty or discomfort when breathing.

My Nan was a loving Mother, Nan, Great Nan and Friend to many. She was a caring, charitable and irreplaceable individual with a great sense of humour, who was nothing but kind to anybody who crossed her path. Its needless to say on behalf of myself, my family and all of my nans friends that she has left a big hole in our hearts and will be greatly missed.

Unfortunately, on the 19th of February 2017 she was taken to university hospital Coventry and was diagnosed with end stage COPD after suffering a small heart attack, at which point we were told that all we could do was make her as comfortable as possible. We did not know at that point that it would be almost 6 weeks later when we would sadly say goodbye to her, and this was where our story with Myton Hospice began…
As a family, we knew nothing about Myton Hospice until it was suggested by the palliative doctor that we transfer her to Myton to give her the most comfortable final days.
My nan fought hard throughout the duration of her stay in the hospice and surprised everyone around her, Even the doctors! Sadly, on the 1st April 2017 she took her last breath and passed away peacefully.

For those who don’t know a lot about Myton Hospice it is practically a home away from home for patients with teams of volunteers, nurses, doctors and other health care professionals who specialise in helping you and your loved ones to get on top of difficult symptoms, deal with any physical pain and reduce emotional distress during a patient’s final days or also so that you can return home better prepared to cope. To provide their services, they must raise over £8 million each year.

we would like to say a massive thank you to all of the nurses, doctors, and all of the volunteers at Myton as they gave their time and support selflessly. The way we would like to do this is to raise as much money as possible for Myton hospice due to the high level of support, empathy and medical care for not only my Nan but for our family too. This charity has become very close to our hearts and any donation no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated.
