Story
Every ten minutes, a family loses a child to rabies, an unimaginably painful disease which still kills over 55,000 people a year. The disease has truly horrific manifestations, which ultimately result in death if immediate post-exposure treatment is not attained. You may be surprised that rabies is still a problem, given that the control measures implemented in most developed countries, like the UK, have been extremely successful and therefore rabies has fallen off the agenda. However, most people affected by rabies live in extreme poverty and unfortunately treatment is expensive and inaccessable for many victims of rabies. But the success of rabies control through dog vaccination and other control measures proves that rabies can be beaten.
