Kristy Hopkins is raising money for Marie Curie
Story
Welcome Peeps,
After completing my journey from Coast to Coast on two wheels I thought it’s time to better the physical and mental challenge and climb a rather big hill, also know as Mount Kilimanjaro located in Tanzania in that there East Africa!
For those outside of my work cloud, it is the company I work for Thales who have thrown this opportunity into my lap. A little box on the company intranet caught my eye asking if anyone was interested in raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care, a massively worthy cause that many reading this will have had first hand experience of the good work that they do. The really sad news is that 1 in 3 of us will get cancer and 1 in 4 of us will not survive it, so I thought it would be the perfect challenge to secure some much needed specialist nursing hours for those fighting the illness.
On February the 21st 2011 I’ll be setting off to climb up the tallest free standing mountain in the world. It will take 5 days to get up and 1 ½ day to get down which does seem a little bit daft to me but I’m going with it. I’ll be starting off at the bottom in 30 degree heat and arriving at the top in minus 20, which means I’ll start off the climb with prickly heat and end up with chill blains (and for those that know me well that’s no exaggeration)! The climb will be a challenge but it’s the lack of oxygen and access to a good bottle of that will really hurt….but I’m going to grin and bare it and try and trot up there like a little mountain goat! I am therefore asking you to give me your cold, hard, much worked for cash to support my effort.
I know some of you may be suffering from charity fatigue especially in these difficult financial times, as there is always someone doing something and every cause is a worthy one. My target is a large one, and I’ve worked out if everyone I know in the world gives me a fiver I reckon I can scrape 50 quid together. Therefore if you can spare any more my heart will burst with pleasure.
