Caitlin was diagnosed at the age of 4 months old with Retinoblastoma (RB) a rare form of Cancer that rapidly develops from the immature cells of a retina, the light-detecting tissue of the eye. It is the most common malignant cancer of the eye in children, and it is almost exclusively found in young children. Caitlin went to The Royal London and Barts hospital Whitechapel where she went for an initial operation I waited and when she came out of theatre me and my family was asked to go into a consultation room where we were surrounded by doctors including a consultant from Great Ormond Street Hospital, nurses and a family worker from CHECT, then Caitlin's Consultant from the Retinoblastoma team explained if Caitlin does not have her eye removed she will not live until the age of 1 this was an easy choice an eye compared to your child's life is nothing. After her 1st operation to have her eye Enucleated she had 3 months of Chemotherapy after this she was given the all clear of any form of Cancer. The 1st year of a lot of operations, appointments and worry I felt relieved that there was someone I could always talk to about any concerns I had and that was the family worker from CHECT. 10 years later my daughter has done charity fundraising for Cancer research and this is her major event for CHECT. I will update you after the event. Thank you for your help :)
