Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This is Breathe story part #2 !!

Inspired by many of #teambreathe who are into ultra sports and having wanted to revisit something 'big' since my London Marathon in 2004 (preceding my first cancer later that year), I have signed up to this 100km ultra challenge event.

Call me mad, but I would say 'why not!' I need to test both my physical and mental rehabilitation and felt this would be a great goal and a way to give back to Macmillan. My doctors have given me the green light and encouragement to do this too - that is walk rather than run for the lower impact on my lungs.

My cousin, Jacqueline Haas, a successful ultra runner herself (first female on day 2, 3rd overall in Race to the Stones 2016), has agreed to team up with me. She is letting me be the handbrake to her normal pace. We are definitely walking this one (well attempting to) under the team name  ‘L2BCousin’.

Please keep May 27-28th free in your diary to track our progress and if you are anywhere near the start in Richmond, the end in Brighton or points in between, it would be great to see friendly faces enroute.

More info about the event and the route can be found on the official event site: http://www.london2brightonchallenge.com/ . Our overnight stop will be around Turners Hill, between Crawley and East Grinstead.

I am going to raise money for Macmillan who have helped and been at Philippa and my side twice now. I considered The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, as the UK’s only dedicated charity to my current illness, but chose Macmillan for personal reasons.

Jacqueline is raising money for OutoftheBlue; who in turn support four great small charities; Winston’s Wish, Dragonflies, The Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team and CALM. (The Campaign Against Living Miserably). Jacqui works with and supports these charities using running as therapy to those with mental difficulties and working directly alongside the Beachy Head Chaplaincy team, at times on ‘watch’ at that renowned beauty spot !!
