Laura Wright
Laura's RFL Half Time Challenge
Fundraising for Marie Curie
On Saturday 25th August 2018 I’ll be taking part in a Rugby League celebrity half-time challenge on the hallowed Wembley Stadium turf at the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup final. I’ll be representing Marie Curie, the UK’s leading terminal illness charity.During the challenge I have to accurately pass six rugby balls, make a complete set of six tackles, then kick a ball between the posts. I’ll be competing against other celebrities and hoping to complete the challenge first and claim the bragging rights! To help me with this challenge I’ve teamed up with Rugby League legend Martin Offiah, who’ll be coaching me in the build-up and providing some well-needed encouragement on the day. Look out for footage of us training together over the coming weeks: @martinoffiah@thelaurawrightAnd if you planned to attend the match please consider buying your tickets through this link:https://rugbyleague.tickethour.co.uk/priceSeatingPlan.html?idProduct=262&utm_source=MARIECURIE&utm_medium=Online&utm_campaign=HTChallenge as a whopping 40% of your ticket money will go straight to Marie Curie!I am so proud to support Marie Curie’s work and they helped my Grandpa towards the end of his life. It’s not something that is easy to talk about but I know when going through something like that, being comfortable and having support around you will change your experience for the better. I’ve seen first-hand the emotions of losing a loved one, so to have guidance and support through that is invaluable. I miss my Grandpa every day and am so grateful for the support Marie Curie were able to give to him and to my family.I also visited the Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead last year and while speaking to some of the patients I learnt that one lady loved the song Ave Maria so I sang to her in her room and it’s a moment I will never forget. Buying a ticket through the Marie Curie link will mean 40% of the ticket sale goes to the charity. Many of us will know someone suffering with a terminal illness and this money can really help.Marie Curie and I will be very grateful for any support you want to give me for this challenge. Every pound raised will help to provide vital care and support for people living with a terminal illness and their loved ones.
