Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Laura aka the crazy dog lady!

I have just entered myself,  and my slightly mad collie x pointer called Smell,  into our first ever 6K canicross run to raise money for the Algernon Trust :-) This little section is my chance to explain to you why I am doing it and why I would like your sponsorship, so here goes

...  I was a fairly sporty person until my youngest daughter was born in 2004, when basically I got fat ;-) A few years ago myself and a friend decided to get fit together , and we started jogging. We used to joke about how seriously unfit we were, but slowly we got a bit better. Unfortunately our jogging came to an end when my friend found out she was expecting and I thought I had trapped a nerve as I has strange numbness and tingling in one leg and both arms. It's not easy to walk, let alone run when you cant feel your foot!  Then in 2013 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

So why now? well to start with I have got my head around the weird and wonderful symptoms that come with MS so feel I am ready for a challenge ( believe me, losing weight and getting fit to run 6K when you like food as much as me is a challenge!)

I have also been inspired by a few people to give this a go..first and foremost my original running partner Celina, who last weekend completed the 10K Wolf run. Then a friend Paul Hooper , whose dedication to raising money for Help 4 Heroes has seen him in the last month cycle across Vietnam, complete the London Marathon and Wolf run. Last but not least my cousin Julie,  who is one of the most inspiring women I know with her marathon running, cycling and hill climbing for charity. If i could just have the same amount of motivation and commitment that she has in her little toe then everything will be ok.

So, it may not be a marathon, I may not be swimming across lakes, nor throwing myself out of a plane ( which at current state of fitness would be easier) but it is a challenge, and it is for charity so please support me and don't buy me cake.
