10K for Ward i1 angels

10K for Ward i1 angels · 5 September 2020
Our local hospitals in Sheffield have come under unprecedented levels of pressure during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Sheffield Hospitals Charity have worked so hard to provide essentials for staff and patients. They do amazing work every day.
Ward i1 is a 32 bedded regional unit that provides care for patients undergoing ophthalmic, oral and maxillofacial, ear, nose, throat and neck surgery. This ranges from minor surgery to major complex surgery to treat malignancy. Many of the patients we care for have altered airways e.g. a laryngectomy or tracheostomy. This is life changing surgery that affects patients not just physically but psychologically. Sheffield charities have helped these patients on numerous occasions, when they have provided funding to pay for necessary equipment for the ward. This has included moving and handling equipment, comfortable patient recliner chairs, IPADs for communication with loved ones and even a much needed coffee machine for staff! Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, their good work has continued and they have provided patients with care packages. These have included toiletries, books, puzzles and other forms of entertainment. This kind gesture was much appreciated and much needed, especially when families and loved ones were unable to attend the ward themselves and bring patients belongings in.
Because of all Sheffield Hospitals Charity hard work, as a ward we would like to say a massive thank you! We have decided to do a sponsored 10K walk to raise money and give something back.
