Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In July 2019 I will be taking on my biggest challenge to date; to swim the English Channel solo.

The total distance is approx 21 miles (34km) in a straight line but the true distance could be much more depending on winds and tides.

Following the Channel Swimming Association rules, I will only be wearing a swimsuit, goggles, swim hat and ear plugs; wetsuits are not permitted.

Why I chose this challenge

I have always had an affinity with the water, and for me there is no place on earth I am happier; whether swimming, windsurfing or surfing, in the sea I am truly at home.

I have always been drawn to endurance events. The races and challenges I love the most are the ones where it is between me and nature, not against other individuals. I love to find out- What can I do? What am I capable of? So, to marry up my two passions; the ocean, with solo endurance, this seemed like an obvious choice.

-------------------------------

Why I chose these charities

I have choosen two marine-based non-profit charities who I would like to support equally; The Marine Conservation Society and Sea Shepherd, which I feel do such incredible work to protect and repair our beaches, oceans and the beautiful animals that inhabit them.

Please see below for further information on Sea Shepherd.

Anything you feel able to give, no matter how big or small, would be so much appreciated and will help to keep me going when I get cold and tired.

Big love! 💖

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS)

Is a non-profit, non-governmental, marine conservation organisation.

They engage in conventional protests and direct actions to protect marine wildlife around the world and inform the public of their plight. Sea Shepherd operations have included interdiction against commercial fishing, shark poaching and finning, seal hunting and whaling.

The group has been active in intervening against fishing and poaching in the South Pacific, the Mediterranean, and in waters around the Galapagos Islands. In addition to their direct action campaigns, Sea Shepherd also works on important ocean issues such as plastic pollution.

About the charity

Captain Paul Watson Foundation UK (formerly Sea Shepherd UK) is a marine conservation charity whose aim is to defend marine wildlife around the UK & across the world’s oceans. CPWF-UK uses innovative tactics to investigate, expose and take action when necessary to defend ocean wildlife.
