Story
Its always been a dream of mine to run in the Great North Run. And this is my year 🥳
In 2018, I took the decision to get back into running properly and completed 3 half marathons in 8 weeks and then bit the bullet and decided to enter the ballot for the GNR.
Back in January, my family and I had the greatest privilege of being able to have a tour of the new Great Western Air Ambulance base. It was incredible and I was sooo touched by the amazing work they do that I said to myself, if I get a place in the GNR, I’ll do it for them. They rely on local support for the day to day running of the base and its team of doctors and crew.
In feb 2019, I got the long awaited email which congratulated me on being successful on getting my place. I was totally shocked and it was very unexpected but then excitement took over. Who do I call first??? There was only one person I knew who would be able to pick up the phone at lunchtime - My Dad. When I told him the news, he was sooo happy and excited too that he then called everyone he knew. Typical Dad really.
In April 2019, dad unexpectedly passed away and life changed forever. Unknown at the time but a few days later I was informed that GWAAC Critical Care Doctors attended to Dad on that fateful day and I now want to say thank you to them for what they did for us and what they continue to do for others.
Please dig deep and give what you can. I’ll be sure to dig deep on the day to get across that finish line and make dad proud.
