Story

Thank you for taking the time to view our JustGiving page:

Our challenge is to climb the highest mountain in Europe, Mont Blanc, without the aid of any guide, as well as Gran Paradiso, the highest peak in Italy, across 7 days in June of this year.

We have chosen to take on this challenge in aid of Maggie’s Newcastle; an independent cancer support charity based right here in the heart of the North East, and a charity that's very close to our hearts.

Almost everyone is effected by cancer in one way or another in their lifetime, whether it's personally, or through a loved one or friend. Maggie’s Newcastle offer unsurpassed help and support to in-patients going through treatment, friends and family, as well as out-patients trying to regain some sort of normality after such a testing mental and physical ordeal.

This charity relies purely on the generous donations of ordinary people, and receives absolutely no government funding. To put this into context, for every day the centre runs, it costs Maggie’s upwards of £2500 PER DAY. This is where you come in; our target is to raise £5000 on the back of our expedition. As you can imagine, the training, preparation, and sacrifice to be ready for this trip is intense (as you’ll see from the team profiles below, we will preparing for this climb whilst still managing day jobs, families, children etc.) however it is nothing compared to what the people who use Maggie’s are dealing with. It is also worth mentioning that this trip is completely self-funded by each member of the team;
all of your donations will go straight to Maggie’s.

We will be keeping everyone up to date with our training, our preparation, and course the trip itself (and all the catastrophes in between!) in our blog, where we'll also answer all the big questions:

How are we preparing for such an ordeal?

What sorts of things are we doing to make sure we're fully prepared?

How is our training going?

Will Moaty make it up in one piece, and how many #moaty moments will we have between now and our return from Geneva??

Thank you in advance for any donation you've been kind enough to make; and we love you all.

Over and out,

Team Mont Blanc 2017
