Story

Hello I am sat with my father in Oakhaven hospice where he is being extremely well looked after in his final days from an extremely aggressive kidney cancer which has aggressively spread to his bones and lungs.

December 2018 he was given the all clear from being in remission from prostate cancer a few years prior and told to go live his life. Unfortunately over Christmas he was complaining of groin pain and neck pain and after persistence to get the gp to listen he was finally sent for a scan mid January.

The news the same day was devastating to our whole family that our extremely fit father who had never smoked never drank had been so cruelly struck so violently with this.

For the past 8 months we have witnessed the rapid deterioration starting with the bone cancer eating through his groin and leg. By the end of January he was unable to walk Unaided within a month he was bed bound .

The pain was so severe for him the Southampton general hospital was unable to find a solution to his nerve pain that his body and mind could accept thus leading to the need of Oakhaven hospice with the extra special facilities and access to pain relief to make his final journey comfortable.

Whilst visiting for the last month I had noticed they have a room sealed off and needing to know I asked why this well needed room is out of use.

Unfortunately the room had some severe build defects within months of the build a couple of years ago subsequently requiring it to be dug up back to slab with a major drain / damp issue.

Unfortunately the builder has ceased to exist leaving this well needed charity organisation a really well needed room out of action.

Many of the nurses have never seen this room in operation and with so much to offer I would do the work myself but A. I’m not a builder B. I doubt I’d be insured to carry out this work. However I am a plumber and would be pleased to carry out the necessary plumbing works.

I would love nothing more than to repay the service and hospitality they have provided my father and thousands of past present and future patients in desperate need of this unrivalled level of care for end of life all completely funded by generous donations from the general public.

Please could I ask for your support and help me raise £3000 upwards towards the building comprising of damp proofing, insulating, underfloor heating refixing, screeding, wetroom complete floor, wastes and final floor coverings as work to put this room back in use for a much loved relative of someone else as we have been so fortunate to witness my fathers final days in this special place in Lymington.

Your heart broken son Lee xx
