My dad (Joe) and I have had our tandem since July 1993 and - back in the day - we clocked up well over 2000 miles on it. It’s been a long time since we’ve ridden it but recent events have prompted us to dust it off for a good cause.

We’ve chosen Rosemere because Mum has been treated there twice in three years so we’ve got to know quite a lot about it.

Our event has been inspired by the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which had its bicentenary in 2016. There are two of us so we’re cycling the route twice - a total distance of about 250 miles!

Stage 1 - Clitheroe to Eccleston and back (53.6 miles in 5 hr 22 mins) on 14 June 2017.

Stage 2 - Eccleston to Lydiate and back (36.11 miles in 3hr 10 mins) on 25 July 2017.

Stage 3 - Lydiate to the Eldonian Basin at Liverpool and back (24.21 miles in 2hr 11 min) on 29 July 2017.

Stage 4 was tough! 19.79 miles from Clitheroe to Gisburn (via Rimington) and back in 2hrs 9 min, on 4 August 2017.

Stage 5 - Gisburn to Skipton and back (19.93 miles) in 1 hr 43 mins, on 20 August 2017.

Stage 6 - Skipton to Silsden and back (20.4 miles) in 1hr 48 mins, on 29 September.

Stage 7 - Silsden to Apperley Bridge and back (27.9 miles) in 3hrs 6 mins, on 13 October.

Stage 8 - Apperley Bridge to Leeds and back (19.6 miles) in 2hrs 7 mins, on 15 October. The final stage, so our challenge is complete!
