Hi! I’ve been selected to volunteer overseas with VSO on an International Citizen Service Placement in Tanzania, East Africa for 3 months in September 2019!
ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help and aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long-term community development.
In Tanzania we will be raising awareness on local issues within the community on Child Protection and promoting Children’s rights. We will produce publications that will educate children on their rights as well as their community, and help to develop and strengthen existing school clubs and school councils to promote girl’s education, children’s rights and child protection; through these clubs and councils children can learn to exercise their voices. We will be supporting parents and communities in playing a bigger role in responding to children’s social, intellectual, emotional and educational needs.
The first part of my placement is a challenge to raise £800 towards the work of VSO and their ICS partners. The money raised will go towards enabling the overall costs of ICS, ensuring they can continue sending youth volunteers to the developing world to make a lasting difference in disadvantaged communities.
VSO pays for my visas, flights, travel and medical insurance, medication, vaccines and food. This is because ICS believes in the positive impact of young people and wants to offer them an opportunity to change their lives and the lives of others. All the funds volunteers raise will support all ICS partners to run the programme effectively, always contributing to their vital work.
Any contribution from you will make a real difference to the lives of people in developing countries, so please donate whatever you can :)
