Story

Thank you for visiting the offficial Leicester Tigers Walk4Matt fundraising page! Walk4Matt (http://www.walk4matt.org ) is a unique 110 mile walk from Rugby along the Grand Union canal ending at Twickenham at the Guinness Premiership Final that hopefully the Tigers will be playing in!

As most of you who are visiting this page will know Matt Hampson is a true inspiration to everyone associated with Leicester Tigers. As most of you will know Matt was a highly promising rugby player for the Tigers who suffered a catastrophic neck injury in a training accident with the England Under-21 team, in March 2005.  Paralysed from the neck down, and unable to breathe without a ventilator, he spent over a year at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, before returning home.  He's refused to let his condition affect his appetite for life, and he's amazed and inspired everyone, with his courage, determination and cheerfulness.

On top of running his own rugby memorabilia company, he's earnt his Grade 1 coaching badges, he's a busy rugby journalist, he's patron of the charity SpecialEffect, which helps severely disabled young people, and he's the Ambassador for the RPA Benevolent Fund.

The Matt Hampson Committee have started Walk4Matt not only to raise funds for Matt's ongoing care but also for these two charities which are close to Matt's heart and which he is heavily involved in.  Matt for example has played a vital and active role in launching and establishing SpecialEffect, which seeks to transform lives for young people with disabilities via ground breaking technology.  Check out the short music video below featuring Matt to show you the transformational difference that your donations or even better participation in Walk4Matt can have.

We would be so grateful if you might consider a donation towards our target. The likes of London Irish, Wasps and Northampton Saints have set up brilliant fundraising pages for the walk and we want to do our best to get to our target as soon as possible! We would also love for as many Tigers fans as possible to become involved in the walk, be it by doing your own fundraising event (like a collection at work or in the pub or something daft like a head shave!) to joining us on one of the days or nights.  It would also be great if you could consider passing on this justgiving link and if you are on Facebook or Twitter consider mentioning the walk!

Thanks so much for visiting this page and thank you for supporting walk4matt!
