Story

My son Leo was diagnosed with Beckwith Wiedemann Syndrome in September 2015 which only affects 13,700 children worldwide each year with only 137 of those children going on to develop cancerous tumours usually in the kidney. These tumours are called 'Wilms Tumours' and it is a rapid growing cancer which can develop to stage 4 within a few months.

On 2nd November 2015 Leo attended an ultrasound at Ipswich Hospital as routine to monitor his kidney growth, it was at this ultrasound where a mass was found within his kidney that was later diagnosed as cancerous, his fight against cancer began on 28th November 2015 with his first chemo session at Addenbrookes. Since this day only one year ago Leo has had 11 operations, 5 MRIs, 4 hickman lines, 1 port, 1 blood transfusion and countless drugs pumped into him to rid his body of this disgusting disease. The strength and courage he has shown through out this past year has been second to none and I couldn’t even begin to explain how proud of him we all are. The amount of needles, nights in hospital, chemo sessions he has had to endure is more than what most of us will ever have to deal with our entire lives. He is an extraordinary little human and I hope that one day he will realise that just watching him grow fills us with so much love that my heart is full each and every day.

Now I'm scared of heights so I don't know how I will be able to do this, but I ask for you to donate as much as you can to help me raise money for a ward that we have spent many nights in over the last year and supports many children throughout the year.

The Ipswich Hospital Charity helps provide equipment, refurbishments and support to staff and patients at Ipswich Hospital above and beyond what the NHS can provide. You can help make a difference to patients, staff and relatives at our local hospital.
