Story
Most of us know someone with dementia. You'll have watched with sadness as they lose memories and slowly slip away. Have you also seen the effect the illness has on close family? On those who are providing all the necessary care?
In the years that I've been a part of Lichfield Golf and Country club, I've seen a number of members having to give up golf and stop going to the gym. Not because of their own illness, but because they need to be at home to care for a loved one. Watching that happen and seeing not just one person's life affected but the ripple effect across whole families, it can be hard to know what to do. But through supporting the work of Dementia UK this year we can all make a difference.
Dementia UK are behind the Admiral Nurse initiative. These nurses work alongside people with dementia, and their families: giving them one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions. The unique dementia expertise and experience an Admiral Nurse brings is a lifeline – it helps families to live more positively with dementia in the present, and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence and less fear. We need more of them in Staffordshire.
