Story

Last year the Light Fund announced that it was doing a sponsored cycling event - a huge challenge open to all to join in and support... whilst a couple of fine GB eye folk (Lee and Jamie) signed up and are raring to go, I had a slight problem... bikes do not agree with me.  In fact, I'd go so far as to say that they hate me.  They refuse to stay upright,  refuse to stop when I ask them to and more worryingly, as soon as I clamber on to the saddle, a certain Queen song begins playing in my head. On a loop.  Getting louder and louder until I can't take it anymore.  So the bike ride is not for me...

But this, along with watching the 6 in 6 folk complete an almighty challenge last year (6 marathons in 6 days..) made me keen to attempt something to support this fabulous cause.  So, I set to looking for something exciting and a bit different and I stumbled across Equinox24 - a "festival like experience" centred round a gruelling 24 hour race. Individuals, pairs, small teams and large teams take part in a relay race around a 10km circuit with the aim to complete as many laps as possible within the 24-hour time period.

Perfect.   What could possibly go wrong with a hilly, mixed terrain, stop/start race including running in the pitch black, right through the night…?  The reviews speak of unmentionable chaffing, the loss of toes (nails), mud, “that Hill” and exercise induced delirium….

With the go ahead approved from the Light Fund and GB eye agreeing to fund our entry, I then set to convincing/strong-arming/bribing a team to join me!   Rob Broadhurst was the first to crumble with Claire Coopland and Emma Benfield not far behind (and slightly more enthusiastic about the whole thing) we very quickly had the makings of a small team.  When Ben Lowe, Megan Wain, Neil Boote and Jessica Fawcett signed up we hit the threshold for the large team and decided to enter as two small teams - making it a harder challenge for everyone.  Lucile Hamiche, Nick Coveney and Harry Neal jumped on board and here we are.  Two small teams and a spare...

Each team of 5 is going to attempt to cover a minimum of 200km over the time period and we would really appreciate your support in sponsoring us and helping this amazing charity to keep doing what it's doing.
