Plan International UK is a global children’s charity working to create lasting equality for girls and protect the rights of all children. Plan International works with communities in over 50 countries across the world to tackle the root causes of exclusion and injustice for all children.

Story

Hello,

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. In February, I’m going to Tanzania as part of a team to construct a pre-school in a village near Dar Es Salaam. The centre will have all the necessary facilities such as latrines and playgrounds as well as teaching and learning materials.

I’ve always believed that education is the best and most effective way out of poverty. UNICEF estimates Tanzania’s literacy rate to be around 73% and child labour is common, especially for girls.

Our team needs to raise £40,000 to pay for construction, equipment, training and facilities for the school and we will spend a week helping the local builders.

I really hope that our project will make a difference to the future lives and opportunities of this village’s children.

Are you asking us to pay for your holiday, Linnie?

Ha. No. All the costs of my trip are being covered by my employer, Turner Broadcasting, and me.

This means that any money you choose to donate goes directly towards the project. It will pay for construction, teacher training, learning materials, play equipment, repair and replacement of hand pumps, latrine facilities and community awareness sessions.

This is a long-term investment – you will be helping to provide a fully functioning centre which will benefit children and the village for years to come.

From Plan International

A child’s early years are the most critical in terms of development. Key brain connections are made during this time, which provide the foundations for each child’s future learning, well-being and prosperity.

Plan’s early childhood care and development (ECCD) work focuses on supporting children’s development through this vital period – ensuring they are physically healthy, cognitively stimulated, emotionally resilient and socially competent.

ECCD programmes also strengthen children’s protective environment by supporting parents, caregivers and pregnant women, as well as looking at wider contexts, such as government policies and societal attitudes.
