Story
I'm walking 100 miles in November to raise vital funds for Myeloma UK. Why?
In November 2023, I received the devastating diagnosis that I had Myeloma, an incurable blood cancer affecting over 33,000 people in the UK. I had never even heard of it before! I went on to have a stem cell transplant in July 2024, which gave me some reprieve for a few months, but the Myeloma was not held back by maintenance treatment. In fact, I just didn't respond at all.
In early 2025, I began to relapse and was soon in huge amounts of pain and unable to walk. On 11th July, I was told that I had months to live unless I responded to a treatment.
After a lot of fighting by my haematology team, I was accepted onto a clinical trial in August; the first person in the world to be on this particular trial. And guess what? I have responded! I can remain on the trial for as long as I respond and I am deeply grateful for the extra time this gifts me.
Having been unable to walk, I now believe that I can try and take on the 100 mile November challenge and start to build up my strength (again).
By taking on this challenge, I know that it helps to fund critical research and support services for those of us living with the disease. Together, we can, and do, make a real difference. THANK YOU!
