Our government prefers to let the human exodus from war-zones and famine chance their fate in a squalid camp, on the back axle of a lorry or clinging to a pallet turned into a raft.

Poetry helps me to understand the world.

I understand how useful a conscience is.

I also understand that charities are really up against it due to the selfish attitude of governments like ours.

I want to raise £584.40 because ....

If my MP (a member of said government) were to 'get on his bike and look for migrants', a one-way trip to Damascus, Syria by bike would earn him 20p per mile in expenses.

2,920 miles x 20p per mile = £584.40

The same trip in the other direction by a refugee has an entirely different set of expenses attached to it.

at Vout-O-Reenees, 30 Prescott Street, London E1 8BB, a gorgeous private members' club owned by the amazing Sophie Parkin.

Time: 12 noon to 10 pm.

Entry to the event is free. Please sponsor me and pop in for as long or short a time as you like on the day to cheer our many fabulous poets.

All funds raised will be through sponsorship and donations. Funds raised will go to support the work of MSF and its work with refugees in the Mediterranean.
