Story

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, I really appreciate it!

On the 31st March 2008 my mum sadly lost her battle with cancer after 3 years which did include a short period of remission - and many visits to Myton Hospice. She, like everyone else’s mums, was the best mum I could have asked for and I can’t begin to describe how hard it is not having my own mum. It’s now been 10 years exactly, as I write this now, since everything changed. It was so hard at 15 to come to terms with and I’m sure many others will understand. Losing a parent is so difficult no matter what age you are.

My very good friend Jennie also very sadly lost her mum, Rachel Sobers, 7 years ago on the 30th March 2011 whilst in Myton Hospice. She said goodbye to my beautiful Mum after her second battle with Cancer. It's been incredibly difficult for Jennie without her here and so much has happened. Rachel truly was one of the most wonderful people who was honest, funny, determined and unconditionally kind. Jennie loves and missed her every day.

Jennie and I have spoke to each other many times about our mums, sharing the pain, the thoughts and feelings we’ve been through throughout the illness and death of our beloved mums. It wasn’t too long ago that we realised our mums share something, they both had the same funeral date 3 years apart, 15th April.

This year upon looking for races to partake in I noticed the Regency 10km was due to take place on the 15th April. Now the route for this particular race goes through Newbold Comyn where my mums ashes are scattered (at the top of the beacon hill) and where we spent a lot of time during my childhood. With this, something clicked. I felt instantly like I had to do it, I needed to sign up, it was meant to be.

So that is what I have done! Although most will assume 10km is easy for me the 15th April is going to be a very emotional day for both Jennie and I so I’ll be running with a heavy heart and tears in my eyes - I’ve started already! Running for Myton Hospice is a privilege and if we can help them by raising a few pounds to fund some of the fantastic care they provided for our mums we’d be eternally grateful.

Please donate what you can, if you can. And if you’re around on the 15th April and can get into Leamington Spa I’d hugely appreciate any support given along parts of the route which you can find here: http://www.regency10k.co.uk/route.html
