Story

Jazakallahu Khair for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We have made a pledge to help raise funds to re-open this masjid in Rio de Janeiro that has been abandoned since 1983, currently there is only one other masjid in the city which is over an hours drive from this mosque. This mosque is located in the Jacarepaguá area within the city of Rio de Janeiro which is just 20 minutes from where the main Olympic stadium is being constructed. Subhannal it is a great arcitect that in need of restructuring, purifying and facilitating for the servants of Allah.

The masjid has had so much crime taken place inside it from drug trafficking to prostitution Astaghfirullah! You don't hear such things happening in Masjids. You hear about Masjids open just for Jumah prayers or certain Salah times. But this Masjid is TOTALY ABANDONED. At present it is guarded by dogs to stop intruders and the graffiti artists that have left their mark on the building. Its heartbreaking to know this is what is happening in the house of Allah while we attend our lovely live Masjids.

Building a Masjid where there isn’t one, repairing one that has fallen into disrepair, or helping to maintain one are all deeds worthy of Allah’s pleasure and the highest rewards; provided that they are done for the sake of pleasing Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) alone and not for showing off or any other reason.

The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever builds a Masjid for the sake of Allah, Allah will build something similar for him in Paradise.” [Sahih Muslim]

Our Lord loves the masājid! Even the name holds great honor; “masjid” literally means “place of prostration (sujud)”. They are the greatest places to worship Allāh and to remember Him. Allāh (subhana wa ta’ala) says, “And the mosques are for Allāh (Alone).” (72:18)

Allāh (subhana wa ta’ala) also says, “In houses (mosques), which Allāh has ordered to be raised, in them His Name is glorified in the mornings and in the afternoons or the evenings.” (24:36) This āyah teaches us the two main rulings of the masājid:

a) “To be raised,” meaning to build them, to honor them and to clean them.

b) “In them His Name is glorified,” meaning we worship Allāh in the masājid. This includes all acts of worship such as praying, reading Qur'an and also learning and teaching.

Alhamdulillah Islam spread from the middle east to the land of Al-Hind through to people in the far east and today we are in the west enjoying the pleasure of worshiping Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) at the many Beautifull Masjids. This same right is needed in Rio de Janeiro. Just because we are enjoying worshipping Allah and have great facilities around to gain knowledge of the deen does not mean others don't have that right. So join us in this cause. Lets make a great difference in Brazil. Islam is a universal religion.
