Liz's Kinsman Hospice Skydive

Princess Alice Hospice - Skydiving Day · 2 April 2011 ·
Fat, fifty, foolhardy and flying!
I'm thoroughly enjoying my midlife crisis so far. I've reinvented myself as a nurse and am now working as a Staff Nurse at Princess Alice Hospice in Esher, with plans to move to Wales later in the year. I celebrated my 50th birthday last October, and thought I would mark it with a mad venture and raise some money for the Hospice at the same time. Not for me the effort and discipline of training for a marathon. Instead, I decided to let gravity (and some young hunk) do all the work for me.
So, on Sat 2nd April, I jumped out of an aeroplane, strapped to a young well-trained skydiving hunk called Richard. What an experience! I was in the last group to go up, so I had a long wait watching everyone else make their descents . The day had dawned sunny and calm, but I didn't get in the aircraft till after 5pm, by which time clouds had rolled in and the wind picked up. Once in the aircraft I didn't have time to be nervous; I was too busy listening for instructions and watching everyone else. And then we were out and flying. I wanted to do it in slow motion, to savour the experience. Fabulous.
Friends and family have been very generous, so I have easily reached and passed my target, and now I'm wondering whether I can achieve double my target. I can only do that with your help. I paid all the costs of making the jump myself (hence my donation below), so any money donated goes directly to supporting the needs of our patients.
