Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page and helping us to remember a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather and money for the MSA Trust.
On Saturday the 21st July 2018 we as a Family are going to walk Moel Famau - something that Dad had always wished to do. Dad had always wanted to climb Moel Famau and in July 2014 when mobility was becoming an issue Mum took him for his birthday, picnic and all. The path is quite safe but stony so not ideal with a stick, Dad got as far as he could and after many stops, Mum and Dad had to stop and made their way slowly back down, knowing that he would never be able to achieve his goal.
Dad was finally diagnosed with MSA (Multiple System Atrophy) in May 2014 after a period of illness. This very rare degenerative neurological condition affects each and every system of the body including mobility, balance, fine motor skills, speech and the ability to swallow. The MSA Trust is putting a huge amount of effort into research and looking for ways to at least slow down the progression of MSA.
This cruel disease progressed very quickly and Dad passed away just 18 months later. He was not expected to pass away at the time but is one of the consequences of MSA, it can happen at any time without any warning during the night.
Dad's greatest sorrow was not being able to see his grandchildren grow up and so has not met the youngest. He delighted in them all. Mum and Dad accepted all the help that was offered to them, and for a proud man, at times was extremely hard. He always shared a smile and laugh with the nurses and carers, and Mum says they often brought laughter back into their lives when sometimes it was rather hard, for them both. The future would have become increasingly more difficult and hard to cope with, and we can only be thankful we had Dad in our lives as long as we did and that he did not have to endure further suffering that comes with MSA.
If we can raise just a small amount of money to help MSA Trust with this and help another family spend just a little more time with one another then we would be extremely happy and think Dad would too.
Thank you so much for reading Dad's story and your donation, it is greatly appreciated, and if you would like to join us we hope to see you on Dad's walk.
