Story
I ran my first half marathon – all 13 miles of it earlier this year – truthfully, I had to dig deep in those last few miles and questioned if my legs would get me across the line. However – they did. Now I have been offered the momentous opportunity to run the London Marathon 2023. Running in my home city to raise money for Alzheimer's Research UK, a charity close to my heart.
My Grandfather has been living with Dementia for over 10 years and within this time we have seen as a family how debilitating this disease can be.
The reality of dementia is hard and relentless, yet there have been times when his humour and resilience shines through. For those times we are grateful, in turn finding the resources to walk alongside my grandfather’s frustration at this change of circumstances. Like any family we aim to support each other – my grandparents have been married for 66 years and the love they have for each other is testimony to this and an inspiration.
I will be running 26.2 miles to help make breakthroughs in Alzheimer's Research possible. One in three people born today will go on to develop dementia in their lifetime, so please help me reach my fundraising target by giving whatever you can using the 'Donate' button.
