Story

I have now successfully climbed the tallest single standing mountain in the world; at almost 6,000 metres high Mount Kilimanjaro. I did this for something that really means a lot to me.

I have been volunteering for Wild Futures since 2005 and spent a year working there. They work to protect primates worldwide and also run a Monkey Sanctuary in Cornwall where they look after rescued primates from the LEGAL UK PRIMATE PET TRADE. Yes unfortunately it is true, you can still keep a primate as a pet in this country. There are estimated over 5,000 primate pets in the UK and this has to stop. They are intelligent, social and beautiful animals and captivity literally destroys them mentally and physically.

When working for Wild Futures I fell in love with the Charity, staff and primates. I want to tell you about a specific Barbary Macaqu called Donkey. Donkey spent his first years in a circus where he was castrated. This has seriously affected his mental and physical development and when rescued had fractures to his head and broken bones in his legs.

Donkey, along with Mario and Chico in his group, will now have to spend the rest of their live in captivity as they cannot be re-released into the wild. This was all down to someone wanting them as a pet.

This has to stop!

All the money I raise will go towards the building of a new indoor enclosure, so they can enjoy their time even in the worst of the British weather, and the ongoing care that these guys need. To feed all the primates in the sanctuary for a year costs £30,000.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and please dig deep and donate now so they primates can enjoy the best possible life.

Keep updated with my progress and challenges I will be undertaking at www.facebook.com/luke-berman.
