Story
I am so excited to have the rare opportunity to return to Indonesia and in particular to the International Animal Rescue centre at Ketapang, Borneo where I spent a month in 2015. I can catch up with the team and the rescue orangutans that were there plus see how they have developed. This is where I first met Nigel and Sara and saw for myself the amazing work being done by Orangutan Veterinary Aid.
I don't doubt that I'll find the experience physically and mentally demanding, as I did previously and, in truth, the thought of the flights and travel terrifies me again, but it is too much of a chance to turn down as the centre does not take volunteers now. Add to that a night in the jungle and a trek in the rain forest which might finally allow me to see an Orangutan in the wild, which will be a huge privileged.
I am paying for the trip myself but a condition of going on it, I am required to make a fundraising donation of £850, separate from the cost of travel to Orangutan Veterinary Aid towards the digital x ray machine. I am hoping to raise a round figure of £1000. All the money raised on this site goes directly to OVAID.
