Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of my friends and family know, last year I lost my amazing Auntie and God-mother, Lynn.

Lynn worked as a teacher for Lexden Springs School in Colchester. She made sensory games and toys at home for her school class because sensory development was something she strongly felt helped their very specific conditions and needs. A purpose-built, Sensory Room was always a dream, one that has not yet been made a reality for this school.

For those of you that did not know Lynn, she believed in, and lived her life by, a very beautiful idea. If she had £1 and kept it, that £1 could help make her happy. However, if she gave that £1 to a special cause, person or charity, that £1 could potentially make more than 1 person happy. She was an ordinary person with an ordinary job. She had no more money than you or I. But what she did with the ordinary life she had, is inspiring.

Her sudden death has made me look closely at my own life and the type of person I want to be. When I was 18 years old, Lynn gifted me some money for my future. If I keep it, I make myself happy. However, if I give some of it to Lexden Springs School, I can help make countless children, teachers and parents happy. This is Lynn's legacy. It goes without saying that her loss has affected countless people because of her kind and caring nature. Please help me and the children of her school, by leaving a small donation to this wonderful cause and in memory of such a special lady.

I wish for Lynn's legacy to live on through our actions and choices for many years to come. I Love you Lynn. Thank you for everything you have taught me and continue to teach me about myself, other people, and how the world could be if only a few more of us were even as partially as kind as you.

To learn a little more about Lynn's life and how special she was to all who knew her, below is the speech I read out at her funeral. Thank you and God Bless xXx

For Lynn

My godmother was the most kind and caring, selfless soul I shall ever have the pleasure of knowing. She dedicated her life to being the most wonderful teacher and I know she has touched the lives of so many families who will miss her deeply. I don't know anyone else who has remained in one job their whole working life; some people might think this unambitious, in this crazy world where success has a certain look and feel. But as I told Lynn, she wasn't unambitious. Lynn understood the importance of her role and the value of staying in a teaching position. As a teacher, she impacted the lives of the people who needed her. Lynn didn't care for promotion or salary increases. She taught children and she did it so well.

I've never seen patience like Lynn's. She was remarkable! And this is one of the qualities that made her so perfect for teaching and so great with children. As a little girl, I only ever remember Lynn speaking with kindness. She was firm, but she was never unkind.

I will always think of you when I eat blue soft mints, Lynn. You always had some with you. As an adult, when I visit the beach, I prefer to travel by train instead of the car because it reminds me of the journeys we took when I was small. You always made the simplest of things so exciting!

And one day, if I have my own children, I vow to collect Smartie tube lids and we will use them as pretend money in games, just like you did. Thank you, for all the wonderful small things that made time with you so special.

And thank you for the bigger things too. The holidays you came on with us when you could have done something so much more peaceful and relaxing! The money you saved for our futures. And the fact that at a moment's notice, you would have given up your life to raise all 3 of us, had it ever been necessary.

Lynn was our guardian angel. Us and so many very special children who passed through her school.

Lynn's mum, Iris, cannot be with us today. Nana suffers with dementia. Lynn's patience and kindness didn't just make her great with children. She was also wonderful with nana and didn't let dementia ruin a thing. Those of you who have been touched by this illness will understand how challenging finding patience can be. Well, not for Lynn. She chatted with Nana as if nothing had changed and loved her exactly the same.
Although Nana couldn't be here Lynn, she is so proud of you and loves you very much. She is looking forward to a time where you can both be together again without silly dementia or evil cancer.

We all love you Lynn, but you have more than earned this rest. In your years with us, you have given so much more than most people ever do. I am blessed to have called you family.

Rest in Peace our Auntie Flynn xXx
