MCTC to Tower of London March · 15 June 2016

The Lloyd's and City of London Branch Royal British Legion raises funds to help those in need, who are currently serving or have served in the British Armed Forces. Each year we coordinate London Poppy Day. We are the custodians of remembrance in the Lloyd's and City of London community.

On the 15th Jun 16, a team from the Army, Royal Navy and RAF will set off from the Military Corrective Training Centre, the Forces' custodial centre in Colchester, and march to the Tower of London, the most historic custodial establishment in the UK. This 56 mile challenge, being undertaken by a 20-strong team of men and women, Regulars and Reserves, will be completed in just one day. It is all being done in aid of the Royal British Legion, the charity that provides lifelong support for the Armed Forces community - serving men and women, veterans, and their families.

This being the Forces, training is taken very seriously and currently involves practice marches which start at 6am. By the time the 15th June comes round, it's estimated the team will have already marched over 150 miles. Sgt Thomas, one of the team taking part, said "The MCTC has a really rich history in the Armed Forces so when we were thinking about what we could do to raise money for the RBL, the march to the Tower seemed an obvious fit. It's incredibly hard work because of course we have to do a full day's work on top of the training, but there's a great team spirit and we are really looking forward to it. We are extremely grateful to everyone who is supporting us so a huge thank you to anyone making a donation: it all adds up and makes the training a bit more bearable!"
