Hi/Shwmae! Dai and Guto here. 

We have set ourselves the challenge of the Advent Calendar Running Challenge to raise money for MIND, a mental health charity. This consists of...

Dec 1st - run 1 mile

Dec 2nd - run 2 miles

Dec 3rd - run 3 miles......

Dec 23rd - run 23 miles

and lastly Dec 24th - run 24 miles!

This is 300miles in total each for Dai and Guto. Our target is £1 per mile, so a £600 total target!

We have chosen this challenge for a few reasons. Firstly, due to the pandemic, competitive racing has been very limited. Having a challenge, target and something to aim for is key to our enjoyment of training. Focusing on a goal can give purpose to our training and help our mental health during these difficult times of not being able to see family an socialise with friends. Therefore choosing MIND, a Mental Heath Charity was an easy choice.

People who exercise regularly tend to do so because it gives them an enormous sense of well-being. They feel more energetic throughout the day, sleep better at night, have sharper memories, and feel more relaxed and positive about themselves and their lives. And it’s also a powerful medicine for many common mental health challenges.
Regular exercise can have a profoundly positive impact on depression, anxiety, and ADHD. It also relieves stress, improves memory, helps you sleep better, and boosts your overall mood. And you don’t have to be a fitness fanatic to reap the benefits. Research indicates that modest amounts of exercise can make a real difference. No matter your age or fitness level, you can learn to use exercise as a powerful tool to deal with mental health problems, improve your energy and outlook, and get more out of life.
