Manchester Royal Eye Hospital's Bicentenary Appeal provides a unique opportunity to not only mark the achievements of our wonderful hospital but also raise essential funds to enhance the world class care we are so proud to offer.
With your help we want to:
1. Make the Children’s Outpatient Clinic more child and family friendly
The current paediatric clinics, reception and waiting areas are very clinical looking and can be intimidating to our young patients. With the help of our donors we hope to transform our existing facilities into unique patient-focussed areas that reflect the age and condition of the patients we treat. This will include introducing a textured and tactile environment appropriate for children and young people who are visually impaired.
2. Recruitment of a Children’s Eye Clinic Liaison Officer
The provision of this specialist post will provide much needed support to patients and their families at a critical time - when a child is diagnosed with a serious eye condition. This service will enhance the care we are able to offer our patients beyond diagnosis.
3. Provide state-of-the-art equipment to improve diagnosis in children
The Appeal will fund state-of-the-art equipment which will help diagnose young patients faster and will improve the understanding of the retinal structure.
4. Provide specialist equipment to enhance clinical and research excellence in eye care
The Appeal will provide equipment that will significantly improve diagnosis of inherited eye diseases, making it much less invasive for patients. It will also enable our researchers to better understand the genetic basis of eye disease and offer the potential for enhanced treatments.
