MSDreamTeam Three Peaks Challenge · 23 June 2018

Over 150,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is one of the most common neurological disorder around the world in young people. In the UK it affects more than 100 per 100,000 population size, and impacts on every aspect of a person's life.

We are a group of neurologists and MS specialists who have spent our careers treating people with MS and searching for treatments in MS. They say teamwork makes the dream work. Together the MS Dream Team plan to raise money for the MS Society to give back to the MS community. This challenge will test not only our stamina, but also our willpower and tenacity leading up to the day. Please give generously.

We have individually written a bit about ourselves below!

"Professor Alasdair Coles researches new treatments for multiple sclerosis in Cambridge and is the current Chair of the British Neurologist's advisory group on multiple sclerosis. He is approximately two stone heavier, and thirty years older, than when he last attempted the Three Peaks Challenge".

"Professor Gavin Giovannoni is a Professor of Neurology at Barts Health & Queen Mary University of London. Does Prof G suffer from the Peter Pan Syndrome? He is now in his mid-50s with a failing right hip, an enlarging girth and other ravages of ageing. His last marathon was in 2012 and since then he seems to be battling to run 10km. He has taken up the pseudonym of the #ClaphamGardner as he prepares for his twilight years. Do you think he has it in him to climb the 3 peaks in 24h? He tells everyone that he's up for the challenge, but he is not so sure. I dare you to sponsor him so that he is obliged to complete the challenge and stay forever young".

"Dr Sharmilee Gnanapavan is a Consultant Neurologist at Barts Health, Princess Alexandra Hospital Harlow and Queen Mary University of London. Voted most likely to fall off the edge of the Earth, in case anyone has missed it in their travels. A firm believer that sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage and has never backed out from a good challenge; as you can imagine she has a very patient Guardian Angel. The 3 Peaks Challenge in her own words should be a doddle...?".

"Dr Violeta Sanchez is a Consultant Neurologist at Barts Health. Violeta can usually be found with her nose on a book with lots of dragons and spaceships in it, or daydreaming of the sea. Nevertheless, she has decided to see what's the deal with this mountain hiking business and support a worthy cause whilst at it".

"Dr Emre Amirak is an ex-cardiothoracic surgeon who left the NHS and joined the Dark Side. He now works in the murky world of drug industry as a pharmaceutical physician in MS and he's still passionate about caring for patients. A relative newcomer to climbing and hiking, he has taken to it like duck to water; however, he does wish that he too was 2 stones lighter and 20 years younger when he would have been a medical student at the peak of his fitness".
