Myself and my mum will be travelling to Tanzania to trek to the top to Kilimanjaro!!
This is a goal that we have both set our hearts on to achieve, a goal that we have made together.
After losing my mums partner in June 2015 in a RTC, in a period of complete devastation, we were incredibly overwhelmed with the support of all of those at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue. We were filled with pride from those who worked with and knew Rube (Darren), and for the continuous love that we have had, and the friendships that we have made and the people's lives that we have now become a part of.
As a firefighter himself, this was a charity that we know Rube (Darren) had previously gone above and beyond for fundraising for, it felt right to give back to the community that he was such an immense part of. It was a charity that he most definitely cared for. But also to thank those that have continued to welcome us in as their own after his death and who have helped us promote the dangers of using mobile phones whilst driving, and the impact this has on lives like our own.
We are climbing Kilimanjaro to embrace every adventure that we are able to take and to take every opportunity and run with it.
The firefighters charity: 'Whether injured, ill or in need of psychological support to come to terms with the life and death situations they face on a daily basis, we exist to support the everyday heroes of the UK fire community.'
We are also raising money for Brake -the Road safety charity (our link for this page is at the top)
