Story

I’m delighted to have successfully been offered a place to run the TCS London Marathon place on 21st April  2024 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan Cancer Support do amazing work supporting patients and their families affected by cancer and we have fantastic teams of Macmillan Cancer Nurses at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation caring for our patients. This work is especially vital after the Covid pandemic because we know of lots of patients who's cancer treatment has been affected by the lockdown measures.

I also have a long and personal affinity with Macmillan, spending much of my early career working for the Charity and as an oncology nurse. Even back then I was an avid supporter of the London Marathon from a charity perspective and have a long-held ambition to run the TCS London Marathon. More recently, during my Loch Ness Marathon run for Love Your Hospital in Oct 2019, I was helped when a Macmillan Charity runner stopped at mile 10 to give me a precious ‘compeed’ for my soggy blistered foot, I'll never forget it because I remember turning to my running 🏃‍♀️ buddy and said that I would love to run a marathon for Macmillan!

More recently I have seen at first hand the difference that Macmillan Cancer Support makes, with family and friends who are using Macmillan's services as patients, I have been touched by their wonderful care during their cancer treatments. I am absolutely thrilled to see them as partner of choice for the VLM, and to get a place to run the VLM for Macmillan is not only an honour but quite literally a dream come true!

I love running and I love the headspace, and although I will keep running, this will be my last marathon (famous last words!). And I will be running it for Macmillan and also those family and friends closest to me going through their own cancer treatment journey. Your support would be amazing – thank you for donating x
