Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I expect if you're visiting this page that you know I've been undergoing treatment for breast cancer as I've been banging on about it since diagnosis in February 2018! If you didn't know this, I've no idea how you found me but it'd be lovely if you'd donate some dosh whilst you're here ;)
I was diagnosed with a large, grade 3 aggressive cancer. 7 rounds of chemo, 1 operation, 21 rounds of radiotherapy and 21 rounds of Herceptin and I'm done! Couple more heart scans and follow up appointments and I plan to have made good my escape from the clutches of the cancer unit.
You might also know that I love my parkruns and jogging around in the summer, bald chemo head glinting in the sunshine, I was approached by two lovely ladies who asked me if I'd like to do a triathlon with Team Phoenix. My initial reaction was to laugh out loud. But by the time I got home from parkrun, I'd changed my mind.
Team Phoenix raises money to provide a small group of local women who've been treated for breast cancer, the opportunity to enter the sprint triathlon at Hever castle and a complete 6 month training plan to get there. This is no ordinary training plan. This year there are 9 of us completing it and we'll train together and bond over our shared experiences and support each other throughout. The journey (in terms of both physical and mental wellbeing) is more important than the destination.
Many women feel let down by a system where once physical treatment has finished, they are cut loose and left wondering what's next. The next 6 months will help me fill that gap. The only reason I can do this is because some very generous people sponsored a participant last year which paid for my training, equipment etc. so I'd like to raise as much as I can to pay it forward for someone next year.
If you haven't already nodded off through boredom (this is very long, soz) PLEASE sponsor me. Not only will you be providing a ready made support group for a new lady next year, it'll make it look like I have lots of mates:)
I'll try my hardest not to drown in the lake or fall off my bike and into a ditch. No guarantees 🏊♀️🚴♀️🏃♀️
Love from Maggie xx PS read my updates!!! Probably down there ⬇️⬇️⬇️ somewhere. More tales of derring do than your average superhero comic 😎
