The HIPZ vision is to develop high quality, accessible and trusted healthcare & clinical services to the people of Zanzibar.

Why support HIPZ?

In Zanzibar life expectancy is sadly only 47 years. One in 180 women die during delivery of their baby and 1 in 6 children die under the age of 7, with the majority dying under the age of 2.

Kivunge hospital urgently needs developing, HIPZ will then be responsible for the delivery of healthcare to nearly 250,000 people. Improving Kivunge will have a dramatic impact on the whole process for providing healthcare and clinical service to the entire population of Zanzibar.

About the Challenge:

The Challenge is 11 days in total, 5 days travelling and preparation with 6 gruelling days of cycling! As beautiful as Zanzibar is, this is no holiday! Across the 6 days cycling I will be covering between 20km and 86km a day, every day! Although cycling around a beautiful island like Zanzibar might sound idyllic, the thought of doing those distances in nearly 30C heat and over 60% humidity on a mountain bike when I have very limited cycling experience is slightly unnerving... having said that, if it wasn't a personal challenge then it wouldn't be worth doing!!  Hopefully the knowledge of the good work done by HIPZ will carry me though and over the finish line!

I know we all get bombarded by charity requests but I'm hoping that you can help find a little something to help HIPZ with the wonderful work they are doing. On a personal level, my family came to the UK in the early 70's having been expelled from our homes in Uganda by Idi Amin. My parents came here with literally nothing and it was the good hearts and charitable nature of other people that enabled us to settle and live the happy and fulfilled lives we do. 

This is my chance to fly the flag for a charity that isn’t very well known and really needs all our support. They make a real difference to real people so please dig as deep as you can... even if its just for a few pounds, it all adds up.

Finally, I would like to add that I am funding my own trip and all expenses so all the money you donate will go directly to the charity.
