Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Pictured is myself Maria Rogan and my son Brendan, my brother Paul Malone and his 3 kids Shea, Cora & Eoin.
Paul, Brendan and I are taking part in the challenge in memory of our parents/grandparents John and Bell Malone. We have had firsthand experience of the excellent work carried out by Marie Curie Cancer Care, we want to help with fundraising and raising awareness.
Our daddy John was diagnosed with Kidney and Bone cancer in June 2010, after 17 months struggling with the illness he lost his battle on the 24th October 2011 aged 63 years. Our father stayed in the Marie Curie Hospice in Belfast for several weeks following major surgery and he was overwhelmed at the amazing work carried out. This inspired him to want to fundraise to give back to the hospice. A Tractor Run was carried out in June 2011 and we raised an amazing £9,605, thanks to the great support from local people. Marie Curie Home Care Team helped us as a family to support our daddy to pass away at home surrounded by his loving family and with dignity.
Our mummy Bell was diagnosed with advanced Ovarian cancer in August 2012, this returned after over 10 years in remission. With the complex symptoms of this illness our mummy stayed for over 5 weeks in the Marie Curie Hospice in Belfast. The support and nursing care she received was excellent. Her wish was to pass away at home surrounded by her loving family. Marie Curie Care helped this by providing some night cover and also support to myself and Paul, my brother. My mother lost her difficult battle on 15 November 2012 aged 67 years passing away at home surrounded my her loving family and with dignity.
Within our family cancer has had a huge affect, Paul, my son Brendan and myself are carrying out this fundraising event to help raise awareness of the excellent work of the charity and to remember our parents/grandparents.
We really appreciate any donations kindly given and we thank you.
