Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am lucky enough to be able to take part in the London Marathon once again, having previously done it in 2014. This year I have decided to raise funds for Plantlife, a lesser known charity but one that deserves to be recognised just as much as the rest. We have all heard about the plight of the bee, well this charity can help to reverse that decline, amongst other things.
Plantlife is the organisation that is speaking up for our wild flowers, plants and fungi. From the open spaces of our nature reserves to the corridors of government, they’re here to raise their profile, to celebrate their beauty, and to protect their future. Plantlife carries out practical conservation work across the UK, manages nature reserves, influences policy and legislation and works with others to promote conservation of wild plants for the benefit of all.
Did you know that one in five wild flowers is threatened with extinction?
Did you know that each county is losing, on average, one wild flower species every two years?
Did you know that wild plants are the poor relations in terms of conservation funding?
Did you know that in the past 60 years, 98% of the UK's rich meadows have been destroyed and that half of our ancient woodlands have been lost?
Wild flowers and plants play a fundamental role for wildlife, and their colour and character light up our landscapes. But without Plantlife's help, this priceless natural heritage is in danger of being lost.
