Many of us at DS Smith Packaging have had family and friends who have suffered from serious illness such as heart disease or cancer. So we wanted to do something to give back to others and demonstrate our commitment to being a caring and tenacious company which cares passionately about the communities where our sites are based.

The main focus of our campaign is to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and Heart Research UK, but we are also committed to supporting numerous smaller charities like Spinal Research, as part of our activities.

My father-in-law had a life changing event on 19th October 2014, which meant a lot of change for him and his family, we have all had to adjust to this very difficult situation. It is very frustrating for everyone because there is very little we can do other than support Bert through this difficult time - so for me personally this event enables me to do something positive and support research into spinal injuries.

Our 270 mile challenge starts on 8th August 2016 with a cycle from our Brussels head office to Calais over 2-days, we then Kayak across the Channel to Dover (18miles in one day!), finishing off the challenge with 4 marathons in 4 days arriving at our London plc head quarters on Euston Road on the 15th August.

This event will be a major challenge for me to complete, but nothing like the challenge that Bert now goes through every day in life - so he will provide a major motivation for me when things get tough. I would really appreciate your support for myself, my colleagues and Spinal Research - give generously, this is not a 5-mile walk !!!!
