…yep, you read that correctly!

38km (24 mile) swim, 1800 km (1120 mile) bike, 420km (260 mile) run.

This event is called a ‘continuous deca Ironman’ and as the name suggests, is 10 times the normal Ironman triathlon distance.

Many of you will know that I completed a 5 times challenge a few years ago…my ‘undercarriage’ still bears the scars from that event! Nevertheless it has always been on my bucket list to at least attempt a ‘deca’.

Turning 50 next year, for me this is the time to toe the start line, to put it all out there and give it a go. Probably my last big hurrah before hanging up my goggles and focussing on more relaxing sports like bowls and golf!

The event is over 12 days, and as you could well imagine, only a few people are stupid enough to enter, and the event has a high failure rate! 

To put this into some kind of perspective the distances are the same as swimming the channel, then cycling from Dover to John O’Groats…then turning around and cycling back to Manchester…then running from Manchester back to Dover. All on limited sleep and against the clock.

Knowing people have kindly donated to the cause and could be following my progress is HUUUGE motivation when the going gets tough…which it will!
