Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challange · 7 December 2012

Joining Jack has the ultimate aim of finding a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, one of the most common fatal genetic conditions in the world. Recent scientific breakthroughs mean that the development of a treatment is closer than ever, and this will not only help Jack but all sufferers of DMD.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Dear all

I am the Daddy of Tulip a beautiful 7 year old girl and I would never want to tell her what these parents have to tell Jack.

In May 2012 I decided to get back on my bike after nearly 10 years on inactivity – the usual thing, pressures of work, Dubai living etc – with a specific target getting fit and losing some weight. Shortly afterwards, I heard about The Dubai 92 and was keen to learn more. For those of you who are not aware this is an annual bike ride which takes place every December for Elite cyclists and Amateurs alike, Spanning 92 Kilometer’s of immaculate Dubai roads including some of Dubai’s most famous landmarks… The Burj Khalifa, The Dubai Mall, The Burj Al Arab and the city of Dubai, The whole idea captured my imagination and motivated me to participate. It became a personal aim.

I did the first warm up ride in September – a cool 45kilometres and this took me 2 hours on my old Mountain bike. It HURT and it was slow! However, I managed to convince Santa to bring me an early Christmas present in the form of a Road Bike and my form improved considerably!

In November 2012 I went to a charity evening and met British National Treasure and personal Hero of mine, Bradley Wiggins. I had no idea why he was there or why he was in Dubai. He was in fact supporting http://joiningjack.org/

by not only attending the function but also auctioning off some his prized sporting gear to raise money for this excellent cause. Jack is the son of Andy Johnson the Wigan Rugby League player who is terminally ill. ‘Joining Jack’ is a father’s way of trying to make some sense out of a family tragedy in the hope that someone else somewhere will benefit. As with most charities, the dedication and effort of those involved is amazing. It really inspired me to get up and do something to help, especially when Andy stood up and talked about Jack admitting that he had cried nearly every day since the diagnosis.

My question is what would you do if this was your child? Jack doesn’t know yet what is going to happen to him how could you discuss this with a 4 year old?

I have ‘JoinedJack’ and the link below is to my page - please show me the support that I want to show to Jack. Any donation will be directly to the charity and most certainly appreciated.
