Story
I am trying to raise £1000 for Womens Aid, to help the victims of domestic violence. There have been some truly horrifying stories in the media lately.
Womens Aid, who are doing an amazing job, are turning families away when they need help the most due to funding cuts. Womens Aid are also Bristol based which is a bonus.
Recently on a Channel 4 news item there was a woman who'd been literally tortured by her "husband" for 4 days, he went to prison for 3 or 4 years and the day that he got out his eldest son comitted suicide, unable to bear it. She went on to say that every day 4 or 5 families are turned away from help as there is just not enough money going to the charities that help with this... What?
This upset me. A lot.
So to rasie the money... I've entered a boxing match - on March the 23rd. I've got 12 weeks intensive training. I can honestly say its the most taxing physical thing I've ever done. I've given up smoking, alcohol and my diet has become bonkers. If you know me, you know how hard this is ;)
The training culminates in a full on boxing match in front of thousands of people along with 14 other bouts. To say this is out of my comfort zone is an understatement...
Some may think entering a boxing competition as slightly insensitive. I feel that if sports such as boxing (and martial arts) were encouraged more at an early age, young men would learn how to channel and control their aggression. Hopefully I can set an example to my kids and maybe others too.
Please can you support me with a donation? Any amount is good.
Please share this page with anybody that you think might want to make a donation.
I'll be adding updates to this page when I can. Please help me raise £1000.
Thanks so much. Mark.
