Debbie Fund is set up in memory of Debbie Phillips, who died of cervical cancer aged 48 on 11th February 2010. During the progression of Debbies disease, her family and friends discovered that worldwide there was no dedicated research into a drug treatment specifically for Cervical Cancer. Debbie Fund was set up to raise sufficient funds to carry out this essential research and, due to the amazing efforts of Debbie Fund's supporters, a dedicated research programme is already under way at UCL Cancer Institute. Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide and it is the most common cancer for women aged 15-34 in England. Worldwide there are around half a million new cases and a quarter of a million deaths each year. Debbie Fund has established the world's first dedicated research programme devoted solely to the discovery of new treatments for cervical cancer. Every pound raised funds this research. I've taken up the challenge of running the London marathon to help this worthy cause! I've never run a marathon before, and it will definitely be tough, but worth it for this amazing charity. I'd like to help raise money for Debbie Fund to aid research into specific drug development for cervical cancer. Through my course I have learnt of new drug possibilities and I want to help these possibilities be realised. Cancer affects so many people and I want to make a difference in any way I can.
