Its 150 years since Dr Thomas Barnardos first started his work in London.  Who would have thought that 150 years later there would still be a demand for the services that Barnardos provides.  The fact is demand for services is greater now that it’s ever been.  As the UKs largest children’s charity Barnardos works with the most vulnerable children and young people.

I have worked in Barnardos IT department for 17 years and during this time I have had the privilege of witnessing first-hand the amazing work carried out by our staff and volunteers – and seen the impact they have had on improving the lives of children, young people and their families.

With this year being a significant milestone in our history lots of celebratory activities are planned and fundraising is a key theme running throughout.

As such I wanted to play my part in marking the occasion of our 150th anniversary by doing something a little different and what could be more different than cycling from Holyhead in Wales to Barnardos Village in Barkingside, Essex.  The relevance of this route is that this is the same journey Dr Thomas Barnardo would have made all those years ago.  Personally this will represent a significant challenge to me although by the time it comes around I hope to be much fitter than I am now!  Along the way I hope to raise some much needed funds for Barnardos – and this is where you can play your part!!  By sponsoring me you will be helping to fund Barnardos on-going work.
