We fund research into type 1 diabetes to find a cure for type 1 diabetes

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of one and a half.  He is now five and has to live with disruption every day of his life.  For example, last night we were up at 11:30pm feeding him grape juice as he was hypo (blood sugar was too low).  It makes me so very proud how he copes every day with the inconveniences of this disease.  A cure can't come soon enough and would completely transform his life.

Now to me.  I used to say that running was for mugs.  How would people put themselves through pain and pounding on the pavement?  I had never run a step in my life until I decided a few months ago that, at the age of 44, it was time to get fit before it was too late.  With the help of a Couch to 5k programme (C25K) I am now training hard for my first ever run.

When my boy was first diagnosed, JDRF were so very helpful.  The free pack that then sent to us really helped us to cope and understand what was happening to him and to us.  They are kindly supporting my run and have even sent me a free running vest which I will proudly wear for the event.  They are a wonderful, caring company who are at the cutting edge of Diabetes research.
